ENDA MARKEY
Enda Markey was born in Dublin, where he made his professional debut aged eleven in the Dylan Thomas play A Child’s Christmas In Wales at the Abbey Theatre. At sixteen, he was awarded a scholarship to study musical theatre at Laine Theatre Arts in London.Upon completion of his training, Enda appeared in musical theatre productions in Ireland and the UK including the London and Dublin productions of the smash-hit musical A Slice Of Saturday Night and the Irish premiere production of the Stephen Sondheim musical Follies in which he appeared with Lorna Luft, Millicent Martin and Mary Millar at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. Follies was followed by an appearance in Side By Side By Sondheim with Rebecca Storm and Brendan O’Carroll which gave Enda his first starring role and, at nineteen, made him the youngest person ever to star in a production of that show.
Enda made his Australian solo debut in 2001 with a performance at Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne. He has gone on to headline in shows and festivals all over the world, performing on leading stages including The Sugar Club in Dublin, Too2Much in London, His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth, Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne, Brisbane Powerhouse, Adelaide Festival Centre, Darwin Entertainment Centre and Star City Showroom in Sydney. His acclaimed shows include Return To Senda, Another Place and Time, By Popular Demand, Legends, Home Thoughts From Abroad, Butter Wouldn’t Melt, Live & Legless and One Night Stand. In 2006, Enda toured Australia with Courtney Act in a double billed called Boys Like One Night Stands.
Enda has appeared as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. He has headlined at Sydney’s Mardi Gras on numerous occasions. In 2006, he starred in Hats Off at Star City Showroom in Sydney.
Enda’s theatrical appearances in Australia include the world premieres of his one-man show The Mangina Monologues and Flying Solo, in which he co-starred with Paula Duncan and Noeline Brown, directed by Judy Nunn.
